Sun, Surf & Booze: Here’s Your Summer Skin Rehab Plan

What we love most about summer—the sun, the sea, the all-day rosé—is also what gives us our biggest skin regrets. Long, boozy days by the pool or in the ocean, all while getting your glow on, lead to dry skin, dark spots and, eventually, wrinkles. Even when you’re being “good” by using a high-SPF sunscreen, you can end up with clogged pores and pimples.

Here’s how to give your skin some TLC so you head into fall with the full post-summer glow—and none of the gunk.

Clogged Pores

Summer sweat not only aggravates acne, but it can also make our pores look bigger as sweat mixes with sunscreen and slides into our pores. Eww.

Obviously, cleansing is the first step. Start off with the Alastin Gentle Cleanser, which removes dirt, oil, and makeup without drying out the skin

If it’s a seriously grimy pileup on your skin, try a weekly clay mask for a deep clean.

Using retinol will also help with skin cell turnover, making pores look smaller and your overall skin texture more refined. Try Alastin Renewal Retinol, which has enough retinol to pack an antioxidant punch but is anti-inflammatory and ultra-hydrating.

And of course, a regular HydraFacial is a part of any good maintenance regime to keep pores clear—join a growing roster of #Gunkie Junkies who get special satisfaction from seeing all the goop that’s come out of their pores.

Dry Skin

Speaking of hydration, nothing dries out skin like saltwater, UV rays, chlorine, and cocktails. Plump skin back up by using a powerful serum such as Alastin TriHex-Pro Skin Booster Serum. Its super-concentrated TriHex Technology formulation helps jumpstart the skin’s natural recycling process. Translation: More collagen and elastin production so your skin looks thicker and younger.

Follow up with Alastin Soothe + Protect Recovery Balm. The ultra-moisturizing formula can be used all over, even on sun-dried lips.

Dark Spots

Yeah, those aren’t cute freckles (darn). Uneven dark spots are a sign of hyperpigmentation. Using an at-home vitamin C cream or serum can help, but if you want to get hardcore about a smooth, even complexion, it’s time to break out the pro tools.

Forever Young BBL uses broadband light (BBL) technology. The photothermal energy of pulsed light gently heats the upper layers of skin. This heating restores skin to its natural, youthful state. It also targets and eliminates many of the fine vessels that cause redness and the unwanted melanin responsible for hyperpigmentation.

BBL keeps skin healthy and delays other signs of aging besides dark spots—e.g., wrinkling, loss of firmness, uneven pigmentation and textural changes.

Of course, if you start BBL treatments, you absolutely have to use a sunscreen. Try Alastin Broad Spectrum SPF 30+ Sunscreen, which soothes skin with antioxidants and phytonutrients in an 80-minute, water-resistant formula.
