Here’s how it works: First your OrangeTwist licensed aesthetician will apply a personalized, compounded numbing cream to the targeted area 20 to 25 minutes prior to treatment. Then she or he will use fine, gold-tipped needles to create minuscule punctures in the top layer of the skin. Using radio frequency and blue or red slight-emitting diodes, gentle electrodes deliver energy deep into lower layers of skin without damaging the outer layer. You’ll feel slight pressure from the needle device and an occasional light, sparkling sensation. It may be uncomfortable but not painful.

Shea says the good news is that the Vivace treatment may be for nearly everyone, no matter what your skin tone or type. Your aesthetician will choose one of two different needle types—insulated or non-insulated—depending on your skin’s needs and the targeted treatment area.

There’s minimal recovery time (and for some people, none at all), meaning you don’t have to worry about staying at home until your face heals. Shea warns that some may experience slight redness immediately after their treatment (so keep that in mind if you have any photo ops!), and there could be a little minor itching until the healing is complete. You should wait at least six hours or overnight before applying makeup. “We recommend clients to discontinue using all retinol, hydroquinone products, all lightening brightening agents, vitamin C, and exfoliants five days prior to their treatment, as well as staying away from them up to 10 days post-treatment,” she says. Also, those who do the Vivace treatment should stay away from rigorous exercise and heat for 72 hours.

Results should last at least six months, as your body continues its accelerated collagen and elastin production. Regular treatments over time will greatly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the body’s natural healing mechanisms, leaving you with lovelier skin, longer.
