CoolSculpting: How it works and what results to expect
Even with a consistent exercise routine and healthy eating habits, it’s common to have areas of stubborn fat that don’t seem to change. CoolSculpting Elite is designed for exactly that purpose. This non-surgical treatment uses controlled cooling to target and reduce unwanted fat cells in specific areas of the body, without needles, surgery, or significant downtime.
In this article, we break down everything you need to know before you book, including the science behind CoolSculpting, what to expect on treatment day, and what your results will realistically look like.

What CoolSculpting Elite is
CoolSculpting Elite is the latest generation of the FDA-cleared cryolipolysis platform from Allergan Aesthetics. It is one of the most widely studied non-surgical fat reduction treatments in the world, with millions of cycles performed globally.
At OrangeTwist Fort Worth South, every treatment is delivered by a licensed provider trained specifically in CoolSculpting Elite protocol (Jennifer Flores, NP, Natalia Jackson, RN, or Brandy Box) with a nurse on site throughout.
How cryolipolysis works
Cryolipolysis is the science behind CoolSculpting Elite, and the principle is straightforward. Fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than the surrounding skin and tissue. The device uses precisely calibrated cooling applicators to chill the fat in the treatment area to the point where those cells are damaged beyond repair, without harming anything around them. The damaged cells are then cleared naturally by the body over the following weeks and months, the same way it clears any other cellular waste.
The process takes between 35 and 60 minutes per cycle, and because two applicators can run simultaneously, multiple areas can be addressed in a single visit.

Why fat cells respond differently from other tissue
The key to cryolipolysis is that fat cells are selectively vulnerable to cold. Research has shown that adipocytes (fat cells) begin to undergo programmed cell death at temperatures that leave surrounding structures (such as skin, nerves and muscle) completely unaffected. CoolSculpting Elite targets that specific temperature window with precision, which is what makes the treatment both effective and safe.
Which areas can CoolSculpting treat?
CoolSculpting Elite is FDA-cleared for nine distinct areas of the body. Your provider will assess what is pinchable, treatable, and likely to deliver visible improvement at your complimentary You Review before anything is booked.
- Abdomen: upper and lower
- Flanks: love handles and lower back
- Inner and outer thighs
- Under the chin: submental fat and double chin
- Back: bra fat and back rolls
- Banana roll: the fold beneath the buttocks
- Upper arms
- Jawline
The double-applicator design of CoolSculpting Elite means that two of these areas can often be treated in a single session, which cuts the time investment for clients addressing more than one zone.
Who is CoolSculpting suitable for?
CoolSculpting Elite works best for people who are at or near a stable weight and have specific, pinchable areas that have not responded to diet and exercise. It’s a body contouring treatment rather than a weight loss treatment.
The ideal candidate has fat they can pinch. If the tissue is not soft and pinchable in a given area, the applicator cannot work on it effectively. Your provider will assess exactly this during your consultation, and if an area is not a fit, they will tell you so before anything is booked.
Good candidates typically include people who:
- Are within about 30 pounds of their goal weight
- Have specific, persistent fat pockets that have not responded to consistent exercise and nutrition
- Are maintaining a stable weight and want to refine their shape
- Prefer a non-surgical approach with no recovery time
Who is CoolSculpting not suitable for?
Not everyone is an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting, and your suitability will always be assessed during your initial You Review consultation.
In general, CoolSculpting Elite is not recommended for people with:
- Cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria – all conditions where cold exposure can cause a serious reaction
- Very loose or excess skin in the treatment area, which can affect how the applicator fits and how the result looks
- Neuropathy or reduced sensation in the planned treatment area
- Active skin conditions, open wounds, or recent surgery in the target area
If meaningful weight loss is your primary goal right now rather than contouring, your provider may suggest exploring TwistOff (OrangeTwist’s medical weight loss program, built around semaglutide) before moving to body contouring. The two work well in sequence, and your provider will walk through what makes sense for your situation.
What to expect on treatment day
Your You Review comes first: a complimentary, no-pressure conversation where your provider maps the areas, confirms what is pinchable, and walks through the plan and pricing before anything is scheduled. Once you are ready to proceed, treatment day at Fort Worth South goes like this:
Who Clear & Brilliant isn’t for
Clear & Brilliant is a safe and well-tolerated treatment for most skin tones and types, but it is not the right answer for everyone.
- Active breakouts or inflamed skin: an active acne flare, open sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area means the timing is off. Let the skin settle first.
- Tanned or recently sun-exposed skin: laser treatments are not performed on recently tanned skin because the risk of pigment changes increases. Mockingbird clients will be asked about recent sun and self-tanner exposure at their You Review.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding: elective aesthetic laser treatments are not recommended during pregnancy.
- Certain skin conditions or medications: isotretinoin use and some photosensitizing medications affect suitability. Your provider will review your full history at your You Review.
- Clients looking for dramatic resurfacing results: Clear & Brilliant is a maintenance-grade laser. If you are addressing significant sun damage, deeper scarring, or pronounced textural changes, your provider may recommend a different approach or a combination protocol.
If in doubt, book a You Review consultation with one of our friendly medical experts at OrangeTwist. That’s exactly what it is for.

Comfort during the session
Your provider places a gel pad on the treatment area, then positions the CoolSculpting Elite applicator. The applicator suctions the tissue gently and begins the cooling cycle. The first few minutes can feel intensely cold, along with a pulling sensation from the applicator. Most clients describe it as an intense cold and some pressure. Then the area numbs, and that is the experience for most of the session. Most clients read, scroll, or rest. Each cycle runs 35 to 45 minutes, and multiple cycles can run at once with dual applicators.
There are no needles, no sedation, and no preparation beyond comfortable clothing and eating beforehand.
Sensations afterward
Right after the cycle, your provider performs a two-minute massage on the treated area. This can feel a little odd, as the tissue is numb and firm, but it is an important step that helps start the cell elimination process.
In the hours and days that follow, expect redness, swelling, temporary numbness, or mild tingling in the area. These are normal and typically resolve within a few days to a few weeks. You can drive yourself home from the Fort Worth South center and return to all normal activities, including the gym, the same day.
Realistic results timeline
CoolSculpting Elite does not show results overnight. The body clears the treated cells gradually over weeks and months, which is actually what makes the results look natural. The change happens progressively, not suddenly.
The first 4 weeks
Most clients see the first subtle changes around the three-week mark. The area may look slightly smoother or feel different when you press on it. The most noticeable visual improvement typically arrives around six to eight weeks, when a meaningful proportion of the treated cells have been cleared.
During this period, some clients experience temporary numbness or sensitivity in the treated area. This is normal and part of the healing response.
Peak results at 8–12 weeks
Full results are typically visible at the three-month mark. On average, a single CoolSculpting Elite cycle produces a 20 to 25 percent reduction in fat-layer thickness in the treated area. That is a meaningful change — enough to shift how clothing fits, how the area looks in a mirror, and how the contour reads.Once those cells are cleared, they are gone for good. The treated area has permanently fewer fat cells than it did before. If you gain weight in the future, the remaining fat cells can still expand, but the treated area will continue to contain fewer fat cells than before treatment.
How many CoolSculpting sessions you might need
Most areas need one or two cycles to reach the result you are looking for. Larger areas or clients who want more significant reduction in a given zone sometimes choose two rounds. Your provider at Fort Worth South will map out a realistic plan at your You Review and give you transparent pricing before anything is scheduled.
CoolSculpting Elite is not a treatment that requires ongoing maintenance in the way that toxins or fillers do. Once the treated cells are eliminated, they do not come back. Many clients do return to address additional areas or to build on their results, but the results don’t require routine maintenance sessions in the way treatments such as Botox or filler do.

Frequently asked questions
No. CoolSculpting Elite is a body contouring treatment. It targets specific, pinchable pockets of fat in clients who are at or near a stable weight. It does not reduce overall body weight in a clinically significant way. If weight loss is your primary goal first, your provider may recommend TwistOff before moving to contouring.
Most areas need one to two cycles. Your provider will assess your specific areas and goals at the You Review and walk through a personalized plan before anything is committed. There is no pressure to book more cycles than what makes sense for your goals.
None to speak of. You might have redness, swelling, numbness, or tingling in the treated area for a few hours to a few weeks, but these resolve on their own. You can drive home from the center and return to work, the gym, and everything else the same day.
At OrangeTwist Fort Worth South, CoolSculpting Elite starts at $3,000 per area for smaller zones like the chin, with larger areas such as the abdomen and flanks priced higher. Most clients address one to two areas per session. Your provider gives you a clear, itemized plan at your complimentary You Review before anything is booked. Financing is available through CareCredit, Alle Cherry, and PatientFi. TwistUp members receive exclusive per-cycle pricing.
Yes, in the most important sense. The fat cells eliminated by CoolSculpting Elite do not regenerate. They are gone. If weight is gained after treatment, it distributes across the fat cells that remain in untreated areas and the remaining cells in the treated area, but the treated area will always have fewer cells than it started with. Maintaining a stable weight keeps the result looking its best.
