SkinPen Mirconeedling at OrangeTwist
The original FDA-cleared microneedling device. SkinPen triggers your skin to rebuild itself: softer scars, smoother texture, real collagen response. One sterile cartridge per client. No corners cut. Real, visible results that build over a course.
About the treatment

Tiny needles. Real results.
SkinPen is the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA, and it remains one of the most trusted in aesthetic medicine. The technology is simple in concept and refined in execution. Tiny precision needles create micro-channels in the skin, prompting your body to repair the area with new collagen and elastin. The result is firmer, smoother, more refined skin over a course of sessions.
- FDA-cleared, clinically tested
- Sterile single-use cartridge
- Real collagen response
What is SkinPen and how does it work?
SkinPen is an FDA-cleared microneedling device made by Crown Aesthetics. It was the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA, in 2018, and remains one of the most clinically studied. Every treatment uses a sterile single-use cartridge that is opened in front of you, then discarded. No shared parts. No shortcuts.
The treatment works on a simple principle. Your provider passes the SkinPen across the treatment area, and the tiny precision needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin. Your body responds the way it would to any small injury, producing new collagen and elastin in the treated area. The result is firmer, smoother, more refined skin that builds across a course of sessions and continues improving for months after the final treatment.
SkinPen is particularly effective for acne scars, surgical scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, uneven texture, and stretch marks. Your provider can adjust the depth of the needles to suit the concern, the area, and your individual skin. Surface treatments call for shallower passes. Scarring calls for deeper passes.

The OrangeTwist Difference
Every SkinPen session at OrangeTwist is performed by a licensed provider with specific training on the device platform and supervised by our Medical Advisory Board.
Each treatment uses a fresh sterile single-use cartridge, opened in front of you. Some clinics reuse or share parts across clients. We do not.
SkinPen works best as a course. We price packages of sessions transparently at your You Review, with TwistUp member benefits across every visit. No single-session upsells.
OrangeTwist stocks ALASTIN, ZO Skin Health, SkinCeuticals, and Epicutis in-center. Your provider will recommend the medical-grade products that extend your results.

Your Treatment Timeline

You Review
Your provider will examine your skin, listen to your concerns, and recommend a realistic course of SkinPen sessions. They will walk through pricing, timing, and what each session involves. No pressure, no hard sell.

Onboarding
Stop retinoids and active exfoliants like glycolic acid and salicylic acid five days before your session. Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for two weeks beforehand. Let your provider know about any cold sore history or recent active acne. Come in with a clean face.

Ongoing Care
Your provider will apply a topical numbing cream and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes. The SkinPen pass takes around 20 to 45 minutes depending on the area. Your provider will open a fresh sterile cartridge in front of you. Most clients describe the sensation as spicy but manageable, with the numbing handling most of it.

Maintenance and Transition
Expect redness similar to a mild sunburn for 24 to 48 hours, sometimes with light flaking around days three to five. Use only gentle cleansers and the recommended skincare for the first week. Avoid retinoids, exfoliants, makeup, and direct sun for 48 hours. Your provider will give you a specific routine and recommend medical-grade products to extend results.
Immediate, then more so.
Most clients see best results across three to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart.
For scar revision, more sessions may be recommended. Maintenance every three to six months keeps results building over time.

Your provider passes the SkinPen across the treatment area, and the tiny needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin. Your body responds by producing new collagen and elastin. The result is firmer, smoother, more refined skin that builds across a course of sessions.
No. At-home derma rollers use less precise needles and do not penetrate to the depth required to stimulate meaningful collagen response. SkinPen is a clinical device with FDA clearance, clinical research, and precise depth control. They are not the same treatment.
SkinPen was the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA, in 2018, and remains one of the most clinically studied. It uses a sterile single-use cartridge for every treatment. The device has a strong safety and efficacy record across a wide range of skin concerns.
Traditional microneedling (including SkinPen) stimulates collagen through mechanical micro-injury alone. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy through the needles for additional skin tightening. SkinPen is typically better suited for surface texture and scar revision. RF microneedling may be recommended for more significant laxity. Your provider will recommend the right option at your You Review.
SkinPen is effective for acne scars, surgical scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, uneven texture, early laxity, and stretch marks. Your provider will assess your skin and recommend the right protocol at your You Review.
Yes. Every OrangeTwist SkinPen client starts with a complimentary You Review. Your provider will examine your skin, discuss your concerns and goals, and recommend a realistic course with honest timelines.
Let your provider know about any retinoids or active skincare you currently use, history of cold sores, recent sun exposure, current medications, history of keloid scarring, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Pricing depends on the area treated and the package size. SkinPen is most effective as a course, so OrangeTwist prices packages of sessions transparently at your You Review. TwistUp members receive exclusive pricing benefits.
Allow 60 to 90 minutes for your full appointment. This includes 20 to 30 minutes for the numbing cream to take effect, 20 to 45 minutes for the treatment, and time for your provider to go through aftercare.
Most clients see best results across three to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. For scar revision, more sessions may be recommended. Maintenance every three to six months keeps results building over time.
Yes. OrangeTwist offers financing through CareCredit, Alle Cherry, and PatientFi. Ask your provider about options at your You Review.
You will see initial surface smoothness and glow within a week of your first session. The deeper collagen response takes longer, usually four to eight weeks per session, and continues building for months after the final session.
Collagen rebuilt through SkinPen is real, structural change. Results last for years, though aging and lifestyle factors continue. Maintenance sessions every three to six months keep results building over time.
Yes. SkinPen is FDA-cleared for the treatment of facial acne scars, and it is one of the most effective non-surgical options for boxcar, rolling, and ice pick scarring. Results build across a course of sessions.
SkinPen firms and refines the skin over time as new collagen builds, which can read as gentle tightening for early laxity. For more significant laxity, your provider may recommend RF microneedling or other skin tightening treatments alongside SkinPen.
With proper numbing cream, most clients find SkinPen manageable. The sensation is spicy, more on bonier areas like the forehead and nose, less so on the cheeks. The numbing handles most of the discomfort.
Expect 24 to 48 hours of redness similar to a mild sunburn. Some clients see light flaking or dryness around days three to five. Most clients are back to normal within a week.
For the first 48 hours: avoid makeup, retinoids, exfoliants, intense workouts, saunas, and direct sun. Avoid active skincare ingredients for the first week. Always use SPF. Your provider will give you a full aftercare routine.
Wait 24 to 48 hours before applying makeup. When you do, use clean brushes and gentle, non-comedogenic formulas. Your provider will advise based on your skin response.
Yes. SkinPen has been FDA-cleared since 2018 with a strong clinical safety record. Each treatment uses a fresh sterile single-use cartridge. It is safe across a wide range of skin types and tones.
SkinPen is generally not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active acne, eczema, or psoriasis in the treatment area, have an active cold sore outbreak, have a bleeding disorder or are on certain blood thinners, have used isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past six months, or have a history of keloid scarring. Always disclose your full medication and health history at your You Review.
Yes. SkinPen does not use light or heat to target pigment, which is why it is one of the safest skin renewal treatments for darker skin tones. Your provider will adjust the protocol for your skin type.
The most common side effects are redness, mild swelling, and slight flaking, all of which resolve within a few days. Rare side effects include bruising, prolonged redness, and temporary sensitivity. Your provider will walk through risks at your You Review.
In some cases, yes, but the protocol needs adjustment and rosacea must not be in an active flare. Your provider will assess at your You Review and advise whether SkinPen is appropriate for you.
