What is microneedling & how it works
What is microneedling?
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses a precision device with fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. At our Westlake center it is performed by a registered nurse on the SkinPen, a medical-grade device, working under medical supervision. It treats texture, fine lines, pore size and scarring across the face and other areas.
How microneedling works
The micro-channels are too small to cause real injury but exactly the right signal to your skin: repair this. Your body responds by producing new collagen and elastin and remodeling the treated tissue. As that fresh collagen builds over the following weeks, skin firms, texture smooths and scars and pores soften. The channels also let active serums absorb far more deeply than they ever would on intact skin.
Add PRP to amplify it
Microneedling with PRP, sometimes called the vampire facial, draws a small amount of your own blood, concentrates the platelet-rich plasma, and applies it into the fresh channels. Those growth factors supercharge the repair response for a stronger result, particularly on scarring and tired, crepey skin. Your provider will tell you whether PRP is worth it for your goals.

Preparation
Skip retinoids and exfoliating acids for a few days beforehand, avoid fresh sun and self-tanner, and arrive with clean skin. Numbing cream is applied at the start, so the treatment itself is comfortable.
The Treatment
After numbing, the provider passes the SkinPen across the treatment area, adjusting depth by zone. You feel a light vibration and some prickling, spicy in places like the forehead and hairline, manageable throughout. If you are adding PRP, your blood is drawn and spun first. About 45 to 60 minutes total.
Aftercare
Expect redness like a mild sunburn for 24 to 48 hours, occasionally a little longer. Skip makeup for 24 hours, no actives or sun, keep it simple and hydrated, and wear SPF. Most clients are back to normal by day two or three.
