What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are smooth, injectable gels, most based on hyaluronic acid, a molecule your skin already makes, used to restore lost volume, smooth deeper lines and refine contours. Different formulations have different jobs: firmer gels rebuild cheekbones and jawlines, softer ones suit lips and fine lines. At our Westlake center the shelf carries the Juvederm and Restylane families, so the product is matched to the area rather than forced to fit.
How fillers work
Hyaluronic acid attracts and holds water, so a precisely placed amount restores the cushion and structure that thins with age. Your injector places it at the right depth for the area, immediately visible, then settling fully over about two weeks. Because HA fillers are gradually metabolized by the body, results are long-lasting but not permanent, and most can be dissolved if you ever change your mind.
Filler is not one treatment
A subtle lip hydration, a cheekbone restored, a jawline sharpened, a deep nasolabial fold softened: each is a different product, depth and technique. Your injector studies your face at rest and in motion, listens to what bothers you, and proposes a plan in syringes and priorities, with transparent pricing before anything is opened. No pressure, no quota.
Preparation
Skip blood thinners like ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil for a few days where you safely can, and avoid alcohol the night before to reduce bruising. Arrive with clean skin if convenient; we cleanse anyway.
The Treatment
Numbing cream goes on first, and most fillers also contain lidocaine. Placement takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on areas. You will feel pressure more than pain, and you see the change in the mirror before you leave.
Aftercare
Expect some swelling and possibly a small bruise for a day or two, lips most of all. Skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours, sleep slightly elevated the first night, and judge nothing until two weeks, when the result has fully settled.

Less than you expect. Numbing cream plus the lidocaine in the filler itself means most clients feel pressure rather than pain. Lips are the most sensitive area and still very manageable.
